How much has the GDPR cost us?

In total, Czech businesses spent 25 billion on GDPR implementation. A fifth of companies also believe that they will not be affected by the new regulation and therefore do not need to implement it. All would welcome more help from the state.

The implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation cost Czech companies a total of about 25 billion crowns. This is according to a recent survey by the Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber of Commerce surveyed 459 domestic business entities of all sizes and in a wide variety of sectors.

According to the results of the survey, most of the companies surveyed will pay up to 50 thousand crowns for the implementation of GDPR. Companies employing more than 250 people often spent up to half a million crowns.

A fifth of the companies reported zero expenses in connection with GDPR. Their representatives admitted that they believed that they would not be affected by the new regulation or that they would be able to avoid possible sanctions, so they did not prepare for the regulation to come into force.

GDPR = Administrative Burden

Businesses cited the high administrative burden as the most common complication when introducing GDPR into internal regulations. Organizational changes and new contractual relationships with clients and partners, on the other hand, were rated as seamless.

According to the Chamber of Commerce, it would definitely help companies if they were provided with model procedures for specific examples and if they could learn about current shortcomings on an ongoing basis. "Clear instructions and procedures from the state would reduce variant interpretations and confusion that currently prevail," said Miroslav Diro, spokesman for the chamber.
