Find out if your PC will run Windows 11
In June, Microsoft officially introduced the new Windows 11 operating system. Although the changes are not dramatic and many refer to them as an improved "10", their launch will depend on the TPM chip, which many computers do not currently have.
Windows 11 is reaching its first end users today. You can look forward to improved windowing, more support for Teams, and AutoHDR mode, which will make any PC gamer happy.
Windows 11 Startup Requirements
Windows 11 doesn't have any excessive requirements for processor power, RAM size or storage. Even so, Microsoft will require a few things that are more standard for new computers.
Specifications:
- UEFI, which replaces the traditional BIOS
- Secure Boot, which is based on certificates
- TPM 2.0 chip (Trust Module Platform)
Does your computer have a TPM chip?
The biggest unknown so far revolves around the aforementioned TPM chip, which only a small handful of users have. If you're wondering whether your current PC contains this chip, there are several ways to find out.
The easiest one involves asking your PC.Type tpm.msc into the Windows 10 search bar, and your PC will display the Trusted Platform Module Management app. Once you click on it, it will show you information about whether or not you own the chip.
Another option is offered by Microsoft itself.
