What can GDPR do for e-shops? - Part 2
In the first episode dedicated to e-shop owners and the questions that have arisen in relation to the GDPR regulation, we looked at the question marks over how to get emails in competitions, exchanging contacts for an e-book or using a long-purchased database. And as this is just a drop in the ocean of questions, let's move on!
Can we use data from Google Analytics?
The Google Analytics tool profiles people, which means that for you to use it you will need to get consent from your customers. It is the responsibility of every e-shop to inform on their website about the use of third party services. In addition, services that profile customers themselves require consent before they can be launched.
Must I stop using a User-ID that is a clear identifier of a specific person?
ID is undoubtedly personal data and you need consent to use it. The exception is where the ID is primarily used to process personal data for the purpose of fulfilling a contract or legal obligation. However, if you want to use the User-ID to profile a customer, then it is not necessary to stop using it, but you will simply need the customer's consent.
Has remarketing worked for you? But is it okay to use Google Ads, Sklik or Facebook Ads?
If you are using remarketing in the aforementioned systems, you may be wondering if you need to make customers aware of this on your website. No consent is required to store cookies that do not interfere with privacy or serve profiling purposes. However, if cookies are stored that do interfere with privacy, then you must ask for the customer's consent before the cookie is stored, which you must record. Remember that you also have a information obligation to your clients on your website to inform them that you use cookies, what you use them for and what all is stored as personal data.
