Struggling with the size of your Facebook photos? Here's an overview!

If you use Facebook primarily for marketing purposes, definitely get started. In many cases, you mainly need to use a photo in specific dimensions to present links or Facebook ad campaigns.

What should be the ideal size for a Facebook profile photo? Is there any difference between an introduction photo and an event image? We've summarized the ideal dimensions of the most commonly used Facebook profile photos in a short overview.

Photos are one of the most important pieces of content on any Facebook profile today. And while Facebook can handle itself in many cases, it's a good idea not to make its job too difficult and upload images in the sizes recommended by the social network's creators. What are they?

Facebook page cover photo: 851 × 315 px
The so-called cover photo is the first thing every visitor's eyes fall on, so it should act as a sort of showcase for your profile.

Optimal dimensions of the cover image are 851 × 315 px, while we recommend uploading a photo of double the size, i.e. 1,702 × 630 px. Facebook will adjust and reduce the size of the image itself, while preserving its quality.

Facebook page profile photo: 180 × 180 px
The square profile picture can be found on the profile in the bottom left of the home photo, partially overlapping it. It is what represents your profile in every post or comment, so it is the most important image on your page.

The dimensions of the profile photo are 180×180 px, keeping in mind that a 40×40 px thumbnail will be displayed in posts and comments, plus the new cropped in a circle. So don't overwhelm the profile picture with information and just choose a simple brand or logo.

Event Photo: 784 × 295 px
If you create an event on your profile, it is advisable to add an image to it. This should be 784 × 295 px, with mobile versions allowing for a larger image.

We therefore recommend that you set the height for display on phones (Facebook prefers this dimension) and crop the image in the desktop version. But remember that the image overlays the event title, so keep this in mind when adding text to the photo.

Foto (rectangle): 940 × 788 px
Adding a photo to a post can help you achieve greater reach. Facebook actually prefers photos over text posts. So it's a good idea to add a photo to every post. The ideal size in this case is 940 × 788 px.

Citation (square): 800 × 800 px
Recently, the much used and popular square format has become used primarily for quotes. These are put on the wall of profiles because they have a great potential to become viral, i.e. mass shared and therefore popular. The ideal size of a quote image is 800 × 800 px.

Rotating photos: 1 080 × 1 080 px
So-called carousels are used to promote your site. They are a series of themed images that the reader can "scroll" through in a circle on the wall. The size of each photo should be at least 1,080 × 1,080 px.

Promoting a Facebook page or event: 1 200 × 444 px
If you intend to invest funds in promoting your profile or one of your events, be prepared to have specific size images in stock for these purposes, specifically 1,200 × 444 px.

Photo dimensions for Facebook posts
This is where the problem very often occurs! When you share a link to a post, it often shows the wrong photo or the wrong photo format. So how do you get it right? You can either go for it from the woods, i.e. in the site administration you upload a so-called og:image in 1200 x 628 px. P if you upload a photo manually to a post, use the already mentioned 940 x 788 px dimension.

To check how the link appears on FB we recommend an excellent tool - Debugger, here you copy the shared link and it will show you how it appears on FB.
