Seznam and Huawei join forces. Replacing Google services
Huawei has been trying to replace the existing Google with its own alternative to Google Play and Google Mobile Service (GMS) for quite some time. But with its own unconvincing results, the brand has finally decided on a strategic partnership with the domestic number one, Seznam. As a result, new smartphone owners from China can look forward to a supply of Czech services and apps.
In the case of the current series of Huawei P40 phones, users will not only get Seznam as the default search engine, but they will also get customized mobile applications (Mapy.cz, Novinky.cz, Television list, Email, etc.)
Huawei blacklisted
In May last year, the US Department of Commerce decided to blacklist Chinese company Huawei. As a result, the company was no longer able to buy American parts to make its phones while using their software. The U.S. government argued that Huawei was suspected of working with Chinese intelligence, which the company immediately denied.
But the declared state of emergency by the U.S. has been in place for more than a year and analysts say nothing will change about the decision.
Huawei AppGallery
The Chinese company has been trying to bypass developers and lure them to the AppGallery alternative since the embargo began. This is widely used by Seznam and, according to sources, they are very excited to test the new platform (as of today, there are over 113 local apps in AppGallery). And in the area of online banking, for example, the Chinese entity has already succeeded in acquiring Komerční banka, which is expected to be complemented very quickly by Raiffeisenbank or Česká spořitelna.
Other apps you can find in AppGallery:
- Damejidlo.cz
- CZC
- Alza.cz
- CSFD
- Tipsport
- Tesco
- Avast
Samsung vs. Huawei
The list has previously embarked on a collaboration with no less a giant, the Samsung brand. Thanks to it, for example, you could find its search in Samsung Galaxy A40 phones. However, neither side has commented much on the result of the alliance and it fizzled out.
The new partnership with Huawei, however, is expected to be more extensive and the collaboration long term.
