HTTPS security will be essential for a successful online business
If you run an e-commerce store, for example, you'll soon need to pay close attention to its security. That's because, starting in July, Google will warn visitors to insecure sites about the environment they're in and that they'd be better off shopping on an HTTPS site.
The search engine Google is going to significantly disadvantage operators of insecure sites from this July. Their visitors will now be warned that they are on a site without secure HTTPS. Operators of "regular" HTTP sites may see an outflow of customers to secure sites.
Google already automatically favours sites with SSL or TLS certificates in searches. Users can recognize such sites by the green lock icon, while HTTP sites now have no markings. The change is therefore intended to alert potential shoppers, for example, to the fact that buying from an HTTP e-shop is not entirely secure in terms of protecting their personal data.
The HTTPS protocol is one of the most widely used methods of securing data transfers between a server and a web browser. The SSL, TLS or newer EV certificates used encrypt all data (such as credit card information) and protect it from misuse.
Businesses are advised to automatically require HTTPS support from website vendors. At Railsformes, we have all client applications secured with this protocol and offer certificates to our clients automatically. If you need any advice on securing your website, please do not hesitate to contact us.
