GDPR helper - an online tool for SMEs
The European Digital Single Market Commission came out with two major reports last week. It published guidance to help ensure the smooth and effective application of the new data protection rules across the Union from 25 May. And it has also launched a brand new online tool that is a clear aid to navigate the rules and requirements of the GDPR, aimed primarily at small and medium-sized businesses.
Due to continued questions and confusion, the European Commission has published guidance specifying what national data protection authorities and other government departments need to do to complete preparations efficiently and correctly ahead of the 25 May deadline for the GDPR itself.
"The guidance summarises the main innovations and opportunities that will arise from the new rules, summarises the progress of the preparatory work so far and sets out what still needs to be done by the European Commission, national data protection authorities and other authorities in the Member States," the European Commission said in a press release.
The successful implementation and compliance with the GDPR Regulation and its rules requires awareness. Here, small and medium-sized enterprises in particular have reserves. It is for them that the European Commission has launched a clear, practical and comprehensive online information tool to simplify their preparation and answer many questions. It will help to make sense of the new data protection rules.
The tool can be found here.
