G Suite is changing to Google Workspace. What's new?

At a time when most work is done from home, more and more companies are coming up with their own online solutions. Google is not lagging behind, and has decided to bundle applications like Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Meet, Chat, etc. into one service, Google Workspace.

While the idea may seem groundbreaking at first glance, active G Suite users will find that it's essentially nothing new. In fact, until recently, G Suite worked on the same principle. But that will now become part of one big Google Workspace package that is meant to be more tailored to everyday use.

How will the change affect G Suite users?

The new name also brings new capabilities. As part of the new working environment, Google is trying to focus as much as possible on the individual needs of businesses and the use of individual applications in the domain.

Basically, Google Workspace is divided into two categories, Google Workspace Business and Google Workspace Enterprise.

The first category is mainly for small and medium-sized businesses up to 300 employees in size and includes the Business Starter, Business Standard and Business Plus packages. The second category targets a wide range of users with advanced features, controls and security. Here you will find the Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Standard and Enterprise Plus packages.

The above packages will be available from January 2021. Fortunately, businesses using Google Suite now have nothing to worry about. Over the next few months, Google will present them with details and options for converting from Google Suite to Google Workspace.

What do we already know about the new Google Workspace?

Google Workspace will only be available to businesses, nonprofits, and educational institutions for now. According to Google's statement, it should later come with offerings for the general consumer as well. Unfortunately, it is not more specific yet. Realistically, then, we know that the new product will have a modified app logo that will more closely reflect Google's core brand colors.

Is Google Workspace worth your attention?

To give you a practical idea, here are some examples. The price of the current Google Suite Basic is comparable to what the new Business Starter will offer. However, unlike it, it will also include additional features such as automatic background blurring during a video call, which will be appreciated mostly by home office people.

So is Google Suite Business, which will be equivalent to Business Standard. Here, too, you get extra features for the same price, such as moderation/anchoring during a meeting via Google Meet.

If we want to compare the higher version in Enterprise Standard form, you have to expect the price to go up by about half. On the other hand, you get the enhanced data control and management tools that are now only available on G Suite Enterprise.
