Even the world's leading companies haven't got GDPR sorted yet

According to a European consumer protection organisation, even giants like Google, Facebook and Amazon are still not fully GDPR compliant.

Remember how your forehead was furrowed not long ago at the thought of the day when the new privacy principles in the form of GDPR would come into force? According to a European consumer protection organization, even giants like Google, Facebook and Amazon are still not fully GDPR compliant.

An analysis of the privacy policies of the largest internet companies has shown that they use ambiguous wording that does not provide users with sufficient information to be sure what they are actually consenting to.

Europe's consumer protection organisation is taking great initiative and hopes to work with the Istituto Universitario Europeo, an international Italian university, to create an artificial intelligence model that will be trained to automatically scan the privacy policies of internet companies and directly flag arrangements that may be in breach of the GDPR.

And while we're on the subject of global giants, did you know that Facebook and Google have come under fire from critics for allegedly forcing their users to literally agree to new terms of service? Basically, the idea was that a Facebook user who didn't check off consent would no longer be able to use the account. The account would remain blocked and could either be deleted or they could give in and click the consent button after all.

Obviously, it would be foolish to rejoice in someone else's misfortune. That wasn't even the point of this article. Rather, our point was to point out that even the world's leading companies are not infallible. But don't take their example :-).If you want advice and to be fully GDPR compliant, contact us.
