5 web design trends for 2018
What does today's modern website look like? It's simple, uses colour transitions, plays with fonts and makes extensive use of illustrations, animations and videos.
Like fashion, web design is subject to certain trends. These are practically constant and continuously evolving and changing. What trends are setting the direction of web design this year? We have selected the five most significant ones and will present them to you in the following lines.
1. Simplification
Minimalist websites have been in vogue for a few years now and this trend continues this year. It is mainly related to the demands for responsiveness, i.e. user-friendliness on mobile phones. Google even evaluates sites that do not work well on mobile phones as not useful for users and neglects them in searches.
For this reason, the graphics of the current website are clear, simple and free of unnecessary ballast.
2. Colour transitions
Gone are the days of garish websites, pastel colours are the hit of 2018 and gradients or gradients are an even bigger hit. Most often you'll see two-color gradients, but four-color gradients are no exception.
3. Distinctive large font
Font or typeface is getting more and more emphasis and is getting more and more space on the web. Sometimes even the maximum. There is a whole subfield of psychology devoted to the perception of font, and so the modern web is very much governed by the choice of the right font. Capital letters, combinations of footer and sans serif fonts and playing with fonts (and words) are what's in at the moment
Image is more than text, that has been, is and will be true. However, images in the form of photographs have recently been replaced by the trend of hand-drawn illustrations. If you have someone around who can draw, you stand a good chance of having a trendy site.
5. Animations and videos
And even more than a picture is a video. Animated videos are starting to dominate in this area as well, but you can't go wrong with a loop shot on a high-quality phone and saved as a web background. It often says more about your work than any words.
At Railsformers we follow all these trends closely and automatically incorporate them into our workflows. If your goal is to have a modern and functional web presence, don't be afraid to ask us for advice.
