5 new features WhatsApp is introducing in 2021

The current owner of WhatsApp, Facebook Inc., did not make its fans very happy at the news of personal data sharing. And perhaps that's why it came up with an interesting list of new features at the beginning of 2021 that will delight not only existing users but also newcomers.

5 gadgets for 2021

WhatsApp has vowed to finally bring changes to its users that will be useful. While some of the tweaks are still in the testing phase, they should all be released by the first half of this year!

No more annoying logging out on different devices

Active WhatsApp users know all too well how annoying it is to have an account logged in on only one device (not counting the ability to connect to desktop). But now, one account should run on four devices at once!

Remote management is already in hands of testers, so its launch could come in the next few months. There are currently other developments that are being shown, including the ability to sync between devices.

Desktop telephony capability

Another major change for better is voice and video calling finally not only on mobile. WhatsApp has announced that after much testing, it has made it available to all users to make calls using its app from both Windows and Mac computers as well.

Connect a new call participant

Anyone who has participated in regular group calls knows how annoying it was for a newcomer to end an existing conversation, add a participant and redial the group phone. Now it shouldn't be a problem to add another participant directly to an ongoing call.

Sending videos without sound

Although it sounds a bit crazy, videos sent and played on WhatsApp really couldn't be muted. But that has changed with the speaker icon that can mute the sound. You also get the same option within sent videos.

Read later feature

This last feature could literally be translated as "read later". Practically, it will be a space where you as a user save the content you want to keep for later reading.

Ending support for legacy systems

Since this year, some WhatsApp users may experience feature limitations or even an inability to get the service working. This is due to the end of support on older Android and iOS systems.

To be sure that the app will work seamlessly as before, you will require at least iOS version 9, while on Android you will need to have at least version 4.0.3.

WhatsApp has long been unsupported by systems such as BB10 or Windows (Phone). However, it can still be used on KaiOS-enabled mobile phones, which appear on newer push-button Nokias, for example. But here you need at least KaiOS 2.5.1.
