2 billion users, custom series, augmented reality...Facebook rocks

Facebook is breaking boundaries again! According to its new mission, instead of bringing people together, it now wants to bring individuals and communities together. Cliche? Mark Zuckerberg announced last week that the magic threshold of 2 billion active, i.e. at least once a month, users has been broken (by comparison, Twitter has 328 million, Snapchat 166 million). 800,000 users "like" it every day. While the number is probably slightly skewed by duplicate accounts, it is still a respectable number. Particularly in marketing communications, this makes it a virtually indispensable and incomparably powerful tool. The possibilities for detailed targeting are endless, giving marketers a wonderful opportunity to communicate quickly and directly with exactly the people they need.

Facebook is a platform that is constantly and very dynamically evolving. It is currently testing the ability to embed up to 100 characters of text or 90 seconds of video in the intro photo on selected pages. In the near future, it also plans to focus on a technology called augmented reality, which it says will allow it to create three-dimensional scenes from a two-dimensional photo. On the marketing front, Facebook is testing the ability to target individual members of specific households in the US market. It uses data that users themselves provide to do this. This is data about who we are in a relationship with, who our relatives are, who and where we report our location and where we connect to the internet from. Yes it knows all about us!

To make matters worse, the operator of Facebook is currently in talks with Hollywood studios to make its own TV series, in which it intends to invest significant funds. The first episodes are expected to hit the airwaves later this summer.
