How GDPR affects affiliate marketing

According to experts, there is no need to panic about the relationship between affiliate marketing and GDPR. But at the same time, it is important to keep in mind the obligations that the GDPR imposes on everyone.

We recently brought you an article with answers to the three most important questions about affiliate marketing.

But where does affiliate marketing stand after 25 May, when the General Data Protection Regulation came into force?

No need to panic

Experts agree that the GDPR should not bring any major changes to affiliate marketing (or the commission system). The technologies on which the systems operate are in fact only partly made up of cookies and do not use any personal data.

In addition, if you use one of the affiliate networks, you can leave all the data protection concerns to the operators. Many of them have their own lawyers who handle GDPR overall for all their programs.

What to do if you want more peace of mind

If you are collecting contacts on your site to send out affiliate offers to, it is essential to have information about the processing of personal data on your site. Don’t forget the consent checkbox or information about cookies. It is then your responsibility to ensure that you keep partners’ personal data secure and don’t pass on customer data to anyone.
