You can now upload long videos to Instagram
Video longer than 60 seconds on Instagram? With the social network's new service, you can create vlogs and other compelling video content for your business, too.
Instagram launched a new platform at the end of June that lets you share videos up to 60 minutes long on the social network. The service is called IGTV and exists as an icon on Instagram, but can also be downloaded as a standalone app. The platform's creators believe it could eventually become a direct competitor to YouTube.
IGTV actually functions as a sort of social network of videos. Each user is allowed to create one channel, but having an Instagram account is not a requirement.
Instagram wants to attract young people in particular to the new platform. According to surveys, the younger audience prefers amateur videos to those from professional studios. Thus, IGTV is emphasizing ten-minute vlogs and other content.
Up until now, it was possible to upload a video lasting no more than 60 seconds to Instagram. Long videos on the new platform will run ad-free for now, but the company is definitely not ruling them out for the future.
