Facebook is for old people. The young prefer other networks

According to eMarketer, Facebook is facing a decline in young users worldwide. You’re more interested in Instagram and especially Snapchat. Although Facebook is still dominant among social networks, the situation is particularly worrying for its founder Mark Zuckerberg, given the huge market in North America.

It’s official: Facebook doesn’t appeal to the youngest users as much anymore. They prefer to use other social networks instead, some even abandoning Facebook altogether. This is according to research by eMarketer.

It studied the use of social networks by young people in the UK or the US. In both countries, Facebook has seen a significant decline in interest among users aged 12-17. In America, less than half of them join Facebook at least once a month. The researchers observed a similar trend among the 18-24 year old group. Even experts did not predict such a rapid decline.

In Britain, however, the number of older Facebook users has increased, with people aged 55 and over even becoming the second largest group using the social network in the Islands. And Facebook continues to be the dominant social network globally.

But young people are drawn to others – Instagram and especially Snapchat, which has almost doubled its user numbers in the last three years.

For Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, this state of affairs can bring mixed feelings. After all, North America in particular is still the most important country for Facebook, so he will have to come up with some kind of trick to bring young people back to his social network.

We at Railsformers follow trends not only on Facebook but also on other social networks. Wondering which one you’ll be most visible on? Don’t hesitate to contact us, we can advise you.
