You may still remember the period that preceded the GDPR coming into force. Your email inbox was overflowing with messages asking you to check your account or re-consent to receive emails.
E-mail waves were and still are abused by fraudsters who want to extort login details for various accounts from recipients. Experts therefore advise to beware.
One of the latest cases is a fake message last month. The e-mail pretended to be a request from Fio Bank, but after clicking on the link provided in the text, recipients were redirected to a completely different site. “Careful users may notice, however, that the target domain has nothing to do with Fio banka,” the Czech national CSIRT security team warns on its website.
Fio banka representatives subsequently warned that the institution does not and will not send any such emails.
In similar situations, internet users should follow a few simple rules of online behaviour. It’s enough if they are cautious not to open suspicious attachments and mindlessly click on links.
