How to tag products on Instagram?

Instagram rules the world of online marketing. We don’t doubt it, and we believe you already have a business account. So today we’re going to give you some advice on how to add products to your posts and Instastories.

At the outset, it’s important to mention that in order to tag products in posts and stories, you need to have the latest version of Instagram and your Instagram account must be approved to use the Instagram shopping feature.

In a nutshell, this is:

  • your business complies with Instagram’s terms and conditions
  • you have a company profile on Instagram
  • that you are featuring a business that sells physical goods
  • on your company Instagram

  • your company profile is linked to your Facebook catalog

How to tag products on Instagram

Let’s start with how to make the ability to recommend products work in the first place:

  • Go to your profile and click through the gear (settings) and click on Shopping.
  • After selecting Continue, you need to select the catalogue of products you want to link to your company profile. All you need to do is confirm with the Done button.

If you don’t have a Shopping option in your Business Settings, most likely your account is still under review or your account has not reached approval to use the Instagram Shopping feature.

And now for the actual tagging of products in posts:

  • Select an image, add a caption, effects and desired filters to the photo.
  • On this photo click on the products you want to tag.
  • Fill in the names of the products you want to tag. Once they appear in the search box, select them.
  • Finish everything by clicking Finish and Share.

It is possible to preview your posts or save a draft. You can tag products on your company profile not only in new posts, but also in existing ones. In a post with one image, you can tag up to five products. If you post a post with multiple images, you can tag up to twenty products.

Another way to use Instagram to promote and sell your products is through Instastory.

Add product stickers to your stories like this:

  • Choose the photo or video you want to add to Instastory.
  • Select a product sticker from the sticker panel
  • Find and select the product you want to recommend in the catalog.
  • Simply move the product sticker to where you want it to appear in the story.
  • The last click is on Share.

As for the number of products you can tag in this way, the rule of thumb with Instastory is that you can add one product sticker to a story.
