Viva Magenta is the colour of the year 2023!

Viva Magenta is the colour of the year 2023!

Like every year, the Pantone Institute has chosen a new colour of the year for this year, which is reflected in design trends, fashion and everyday life throughout the season. The colour chosen is also intended to reflect the general mood of society. Viva Magenta 18-1750 is a red shade that is rooted in nature and brings us vigour, energy and joy.

The American Pantone Institute has been setting colour trends since 2000. The choice of the colour of the year is dictated not only by fast-changing fashion and passing trends, but also by social changes. They take inspiration from nature, art and lifestyle and try to capture the so-called “spirit of the times”. According to them, this turbulent year is best captured by pinkish crimson.

Inspired by nature

Viva Magenta responds to the current changes in the world (war conflicts, economic and energy crisis, environmental problems, pandemics) and highlights the natural human need to return to nature and natural resources. Magenta is inspired by nature, specifically by the carmine dye produced by the nopal worm. It is one of the rarest, strongest and brightest of the natural dye family.

Drawing inspiration from nature is meant to awaken in us the balance between digital and physical life. The color is meant to symbolize certainty and confidence in uncertain times, remind us of the power of nature, encourage the spirit and help build inner strength.

Viva Magenta in graphic design

A brand using the color Viva Magenta conveys that it is fearless, engaging and that it looks at the world in an unconventional way to bring new solutions. Brands that want to appear vibrant can use Viva Magenta to evoke a strong consumer reaction. Whether consumers are scrolling on their phones or browsing the aisles of stores, a brand’s use of the 2023 color will ensure that it stands out and grabs their attention.

Viva Magenta in Interior Design

Viva Magenta belongs to the red family, but because of its uniqueness, it reflects both warm and cool shades at the same time. It is therefore an almost universal colour that can easily be brought into interiors as a dominant colour or just as an unmissable accessory.

The easiest way to introduce this colour into an interior is to use it to paint the walls. Viva Magenta is a very intense colour, so be careful to only use it on one wall. For the less adventurous, we recommend bringing this colour into your interior in the form of decorations or textiles – blankets, cushions and curtains in this beautiful bold shade will brighten up any room. Introducing the right decorations and textiles is a quick and inexpensive way to completely change or brighten up your interior and be trendy at the same time.

How to combine the colour of the year?

Pantone always adds neutrals to the colour of the year, which are easy to mix and match. Viva Magenta is a very distinctive colour in its own right, with shades ranging from powder pink to deep crimson. Combine it with light greys, blues or pastels. Want to jump on the monochrome trend? Try combining it with other pinks!

Send Viva Magenta

What makes this year’s colour of the year different from last year’s colour of the year, Very Peri, which also combined technical elements with nature, is that Viva Magenta can answer our collective need for strength.

The choice of colour is meant to inspire designers and all of us to change, but also to stimulate and often, as in the case of Viva Magenta, encourage and give hope. Let yourself be swept away by this vibrant and fearless colour too! It is worth drawing inspiration from, especially when we need courage and to awaken optimism.
